AI Interview Assistant (Desktop)

What this page is for

The desktop client is the recommended main entry for the AI Interview Assistant. It covers interview voice scenarios and coding-test problem-solving scenarios.

Compared with the browser experience, the desktop client provides a more stable input chain, deeper settings, and better long-session reliability. Use it for frequent practice and formal rehearsal.

Two training modes

Standard workflow

1. Install and sign in to the desktop client, then confirm permissions and audio devices.
2. Choose interview mode or coding-test mode based on the scenario.
3. Configure language, model, voice, screenshot, and knowledge-base settings.
4. Practice, then review records after the session and refine the next round.

Local record saving

Starting from 2.0.6, the desktop client saves interview and coding-test records locally.

The default location is the system Documents directory under GankInterview Records. If Documents is unavailable, the client falls back to the application data directory.

After each app launch, the first generated record creates a time-stamped session folder. It is organized into:

• Coding test records
• Interview records

Interview mode appends transcript lines during recording and turns them into a final Markdown file when the session ends.

Even if you are not signed in, the session is shorter than 60 seconds, or remote upload fails, the local copy is kept so you can review it outside the client.

Coding-test mode saves a local copy after an answer is generated. It usually includes answer text and related screenshots. If debug output was produced, it is saved in the same record folder.

Recommended settings

The desktop settings follow the AI assistant guide. Configure these basics first: programming language, interview language, solving model, voice mode, and screenshot mode.

For higher relevance, add domain terms, extra requirements, and knowledge-base materials after the basic pipeline is stable.

Auto answer trigger conditions in interview mode

Auto answer runs only when:

• Auto answer is enabled.
• The current session is active.
• New valid interviewer speech has entered the conversation transcript.
• No other answer is currently being generated.

Coding-test mode is screenshot-driven and does not use the interview-mode auto-answer trigger chain.

Stealth and stability

Before a formal interview, follow the Stealth Mode guide and run the environment checker once. Confirm that sharing behavior and shortcuts match expectations before entering the real scenario.

Web experience

Use the web assistant when you only need a quick browser-based validation. For formal training, long sessions, or full control, use the desktop client.

Difference from AI Mock Interview

AI Interview Assistant is more free-form and better suited to practice loops and live support. You can quickly trigger Q&A, answers, screenshot solving, and voice practice without following a fixed interview structure.

AI Mock Interview is a complete rehearsal flow. It collects resume and role context first, then runs main questions, follow-ups, and review in the rhythm of a formal mock interview.

Recommended split:

1. Use AI Mock Interview for a full-process rehearsal.
2. Use AI Interview Assistant for free-form follow-ups, live-preparation loops, and high-frequency review.
